To mark the launch of its new guidance paper, ‘Data Protection by Design – Making it Effective’, the Association of Data Protection Officers would like to invite you to a panel discussion. With a mixture of participants from the business and academic worlds, bringing diverse practical and theoretical perspectives, this panel discussion will look at how data protection by design, a core area of the GDPR, can be lifted from the pages of the GDPR and successfully applied in a concrete, organisational context.

Audrey Barrett is SIPTU’s Data Protection Officer. Ireland’s largest trade union, SIPTU represent over 180,000 workers from virtually every category of employment across almost every sector of the Irish economy. Audrey heads a small team who advise and support the union in all matters relating to data privacy. Coming from a finance background she holds a Diploma in GDPR and ePrivacy, is a European Certified Data Protection Officer and a Certified Cyber Risk Officer.
Jared Browne is the Fexco Group Head of Data Privacy. With operations in 29 countries, Fexco are Ireland’s largest privately-owned financial services firm, and are headquartered in Killorglin, Co. Kerry. Jared has overall responsibility, globally, for data protection compliance across the Fexco group of companies. Jared, originally a philosophy graduate, and a qualified a solicitor, has accumulated nearly ten years’ experience in the area of regulated financial services compliance. He is a European Certified Data Protection Officer as well as being an experienced speaker, having delivered many talks in the areas of data protection and technology. Jared is currently undertaking the M.A. in Data Protection and Privacy Law at Dublin City University. He has a particular interest in safeguarding the right to privacy.
Edoardo Celeste is an Assistant Professor in Law, Technology and Innovation at the School of Law and Government of Dublin City University. He is a module coordinator in the new MA in Data Protection and Privacy Law offered by DCU. His research interests lie in the field of digital rights and constitutionalism, privacy and data protection law, online platforms governance and regulation. Edoardo is currently the principal investigator of the project 'Cross-Border Data Protection Network' funded by the Irish Research Council and the UK Economic and Social Research Council, and of the project 'Digital Constitutionalism: In Search of a Content Governance Standard' funded by Facebook Research. He recently completed the project PRIVATT - Assessing Irish Attitudes to Privacy in Times of COVID19, funded by Science Foundation Ireland.
