CITP Application Process

This stage can take as little as 2 weeks if you provide all the necessary information immediately.

You will need to supply the following information as part of your application to provide evidence that you have worked for at least 2 years in IT roles involving a challenging range of complex work activities with full accountability, that you have significant influence and responsibility, and demonstrates that you have well-developed business skills. You will be assessed against the CITP Standard

  • Your current CV / resume
  • A personal statement detailing your experience (required only if this information is not covered in sufficient detail in your CV) / resume).
  • Your personal statement should demonstrate your competency - under the headings of autonomy, influence, complexity of work, business skills and breadth of knowledge.
  • An eCF profile of your current role if available*
  • Payment by credit or debit card
  • Details of 2 or more supporters who can validate your application. They will be asked to review your personal statement verifying your skills and competence.

*If you are a current member of ICS, we recommend that you create an eCF profile for your current role in the ICS Members area.

A supporter can be your employer, a client, or a colleague, and must be sufficiently familiar with your work over the last two years to have a reliable opinion of your competence and provide specific work related examples. We recommend using a professional member of the Irish Computer Society as your supporter (i.e. a member at the grade of Associate, Member, Fellow or Chartered IT Professional).

Note: University/ College tutors will not be accepted as supporters. You can view a copy of the report supporters will be asked to complete here.

Your application will be reviewed before you are invited to take part in further assessment stages. In the unlikely event that your application is unsuccessful at Stage 1, we will refund the application fee in full.

On receiving the application, a peer review of your CV, personal statement and supporters information will be conducted to establish that you are of the required level. If you are unsuccessful at this stage, you will be awarded the most appropriate grade of ICS membership and any difference in fees will be refunded.

Assessment Interview

This stage can take up to 6 weeks.

You will be expected to provide a short presentation and speak for about 10 minutes, using examples from work for which you have been personally responsible to demonstrate your professional competence in your area of IT specialism.

You will be interviewed by 2 assessors, at least one of whom will have knowledge and experience of your specialism, and the presentation and interview will last no longer than 45 minutes. The process will be carried out online using the conferencing software and secure document portals.
