Description

If you’re a current or aspiring CIO you won’t want to miss this one.

ICS, CIO Masterclass Morning: Professor Joe Peppard and Prof. Martin Curley, Thursday 4th November from 8:30-12:00 noon.

Research at Cranfield School of Management over 20 years ago led to the development of the IT investment portfolio model. Since then this model and its application has been further developed and enhanced and it is now used by organizations worldwide. Colloquially referred to as the Cranfield Grid, it analyses all existing, planned and potential IT investments based on an assessment of the current and future business importance.

The main purpose in classifying investments is to ensure that they are managed successfully and that the expected contribution is delivered. Based on the issues relevant to each investment type, appropriate implementation strategies can be adopted. These, in turn, can be related to the strategy formulation and planning approaches to provide consistency of management from strategy formulation to implementation.

A powerful framework, its usefulness is borne out by the ease with which business management is willing and able to categorize IT investments and understand current and future investments and their business impact. This Masterclass will introduce the Cranfield Grid and describe how it can be used. As the portfolio will evolve over time how the effects of that evolution can be managed successfully will also be considered.
