Title: The Journey to the Cloud – Easy for some
(Part 1 of the Cloud Computing Series)
Overview:
Many analysts forecast a considerable increase in Cloud Services adoption during 2010 and report wider adoption in 2009 than previously anticipated. On closer scrutiny, however, much of this increase will be in the SME sector and amongst organisations serving the anonymous user rather than core customers and employees.
The Enterprise sector must address inhibitors and risks and cannot achieve the same relatively straightforward ROI benefits enjoyed by the SME market. Whilst an SME organisation might readily accept shared access and vendor supplied commodity service control and governance, this is a major paradigm shift for the Enterprise organisation and would require careful planning if indeed the concept could ever be accepted. Enterprise players must also consider how they might address guaranteed service levels, security, chain of custody, shared tenancy, and long-term pricing.
Mr Cahill relates BT’s experience of how Enterprise Organisations globally are embracing the fact that cloud services will and must become an integral part of their Networked IT environments over the coming years. He will outline how many organisations and dealing with the aforementioned concerns and starting the journey. He will also explain how BT and its partners are helping to map this journey.
