Description

What Really is IT Governance and How do you Design an Effective IT Governance Structure? While the notion of IT governance is indeed a very popular one today, there is much misunderstanding as to exactly what IT governance is and why it is important. This MasterClass will demystify IT governance, emphasising in particular the distinction between 'governance' and 'management'. It will highlight key mechanisms of governance, illustrate a number of design options, and present an overall approach for designing an effective IT governance structure. Key lessons from practice will also be shared with the audience.

Professor Joe Peppard holds the Chair in Information Systems at Cranfield School of Management where he is also Director of the Information Systems Research Centre, the IT Leadership Forum and leads the Cranfield IT Leadership Programme, an education programme for CIOs. In his research and consulting he works closely with senior executives and Board members of large complex organisations in both public and private sectors addressing contemporary problems, issues and challenges around the generation of business value through information technology. His most recent books include Strategic Planning for Information Systems and Customer Relationship Management: Perspectives from the Marketplace while his book The Essence of Business Process Re-engineering, has recently been translated into Chinese, having already appeared in Spanish and Polish editions. Here in Ireland, Professor Peppard is Chairman of Fineos Corporation and a Director of IT Alliance Group.
