First Irish online backup company to be awarded ISO 27001 Certification

Leading online backup provider and partner of the Irish Computer Society, keepITsafe, today announced that is has been awarded ISO 27001 certification. This announcement, confirms the company as Ireland’s first and only online backup provider with the ISO 27001 standard.

The certification means keepITsafe was independently certified and awarded the internationally recognised highest security standard. The certificate was awarded to keepITsafe following a rigorous auditing process conducted by Certification Europe.

ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) is the world's largest developer(L-R) Michael Brophy, CEO of Certification Europe and Jonathan Crowe, Technical Director, keepITsafe and publisher of International Standards. Specifically, the ISO 27001 standard is a globally recognised Information Security Management System (ISMS) standard. ISO 27001 specifies the requirements and processes to enable a business to establish, implement, review and monitor, manage and maintain effective information security - an essential factor for keepITsafe’s ongoing success.

Commenting on the announcement, Jonathan Crowe, Technical Director, keepITsafe "keepITsafe’s business is to provide a secure online backup service to customers that is fully managed and fully monitored.  This certification reiterates the lengths keepITsafe will go to in making sure that all compliances and security measures are met. We are very proud to have achieved this certification and become the most secure and certified Irish owned online backup company. As businesses grow, so too does data. We recognised the importance of gaining this certification to ensure that security, confidentiality and reliability for our clients is maintained and continually improved”

2009 was a rocky year for data loss stories and security violations. Companies in the data backup space need to do everything in their power to make sure that customer’s data is secure to the highest measures. “It is our responsibility as security specialists to inform customers of data backup obligations and potential security breaches. The ISO puts a stamp on our continued dedication to achieving the highest levels of certification available to us”, continued Jonathan.

Michael Brophy, CEO of Certification Europe agrees “businesses must take greater responsibility for the information they hold. There have been far too many incidents of lost or compromised client information.  It is critical that more organisations follow the lead of companies like keepITsafe and prove to the public that they are a secure organisation to do business with.  Clients and employees have a right to expect that their sensitive and private information will be protected, unfortunately too many organisations fall far short of the standards set out in ISO 27001.
