As we face into uncertain times economically, it has never been more important for students to carefully consider their future careers. The Irish Computer Society and ICS Skills would like to ensure that students are fully informed about careers in IT and Computing.
The ChooseIT programme, is an initiative to promote careers in the IT profession to second level students. ChooseIT aims to create a better understanding of IT roles and demonstrates the diversity of IT roles and the range of employment opportunities open to students who choose IT courses at third level. The principle medium for getting this message across to second level students is the ChooseIT website. This has been designed with the interests of the students in mind, featuring regular competitions and polls, as well as sound information to inform their career choice. The ICS hopes to convince some of the students that they have the talents and aptitudes required for a successful and fulfilling career. ChooseIT is designed to encourage second level students to consider a career in the IT industry and recognise the importance of IT in all career sectors. Due to the fact that technology professionals are required in practically every industry, vacancies for IT staff remain high. ICS recognises that for Ireland to maintain its competitiveness, we must develop, to the fullest extent; the talents, skills and enthusiasm of our second level students, and convince them of the merits and attractions of a career in IT.
