Joining Eligibility

The Irish Computer Society uses a points based system to determine eligibility for membership.

Points are awarded for 3rd level qualifications, each years experience in an IT role, certain commercial and ICS training, and ICS skills certification (see SKILLS CERT).

Points Requirements

Member: 80 points
Associate: 30 points
Student: no points requirement. Must be studying a recognised 3rd-level educational qualification in IT.
Affiliate: no points requirement. For individuals with an interest in IT, or non-IT practitioners in an IT-related business.

Points Allocation

Only one Undergraduate and one Postgraduate qualification may be used in the calculation of points.

Post Graduate Degree Programmes

Masters: 10 points
PhD: 20 pointts

Undergraduate Programmes

Experience

15 point for each year of IT experience in a fulltime role

ICS Skills certification

- Level 3: 10 points
- Level 4: 20 points
- Level 5: 30 points
- Level 6 or higher: 40 points

Training

Not more than 40 points from:
- 0.5 day seminar: 1 point
- 1 day seminar: 2 points
- 2 day seminar: 4 points
- 3 days or more seminar: 5 points
- OEM training course (instructor-led): 5 points per day
- OEM CBT or online training: 1 point per 8 hours of study time estimated by the OEM
- OEM certifications: need to be assessed individually, but no more than 10 point each up to a maximum of two.
